For issues connecting to your hotspot connection on your Windows 11 computer.

Below is the order of things to try starting with the easiest.  Try each number once to see if it resolves it, and if not, move to the next number.

  1. Make sure your Hotspot is actually turned on. Sometimes you need to toggle it off and on, then try connecting again.

  2. Make sure Airplane mode is turned off and is not on.

  3. Restart both the Surface Laptop and your iPhone completely. Once phone is back on, toggle the hotspot back on. Then try reconnecting.

  4. Forget your hotspot network on your computer and connect to a fresh instance of it.
    1. Click your network Wi-Fi icon on the bottom right taskbar on your computer.
    2. Click the arrow next to the Wi-Fi box
    3. At the bottom choose More Wi-Fi Settings
    4. A new window will pop up. Click Manage Known Networks.
    5. Click Forget next to the hotspot connection.
    6. Exit out of the window. Turn your hotspot off and then on again.
    7. Once it populates as an option to choose, try connecting to it with the password.

  5. Reset the iPhones network settings.
    • Go to Settings > General > Scroll to bottom and tap Transfer or Reset iPhone > Tap Reset > Then choose Reset Network Settings.
    • Let it do its thing. Go back to your hotspot and toggle it On. (Note:  you might need to redo your hotspot password.)
    • Test again.

  6. Try connecting via tethering.
    • Make sure hotspot is on.
    • Then connect the USB charging cable from your phone to your laptop and attempt to connect to the phone name in the Wi-Fi list.

(Note, the below will need a ticket sent to IT for them to change the name of your phone)

   5.  If the above doesn’t work. Let’s try renaming your iPhone. This creates a whole new hotspot instance. Try the below.

  1.     Send ticket to [email protected]. Let them know you tried the above and would like your phone renamed so you have a new connection.
  2.     IT will need to activate PIM and log into Intune and change the device name there to a new one. This may take some time to sync over the server.
  3.     On your phone, navigate to Settings > General > About to check to see if the name changed.
  4.     Once the name is changed. Go back to hotspot, toggle it On and connect to the newly named instance on your Surface.
